My season is over

Thanks all,
Appreciate the kind words and encouragement. Just not in a good place now, I am well enough off that the business loss I can absorb, the boating gig sucks, but going under, really does scare me. Those that know me, know that I am not in the best shape and have totally abused my body, this may be the my time and be that 1 tenth that don't come out.

Don't sweat it walt. There's always next year. Get better!

Having spent a bunch of time in the hospital the past year I've seen people so large and out of shape they could not get out of bed to pee and they had no problem getting thru surgery Walter.

You'll do fine but it would be a great time to give up smokes if you do that.

And thanks for the kind words above. Things are slowly getting better. My biggest battle right now is the detox stuff I'm going thru. I'm so close I can taste it but this last step is proving to be MUCH harder than I thought.

John,
I am not weak nor large, I am six 1 and weigh 238 pounds, yes sir, I have a belly an am thirty pounds over weight, but believe me, I can kick a$$. My body says no, but my mind says yes, put me under and my mind does not count, that is my concern

I sure hope you don't think I was trying to call you fat or anything. Just trying to assure you that being "out of shape" as you called it doesn't mean you'll have a problem handling a surgery.

You could tip the doctor before the operation and let him know you'll have more after you come to! ;)

Sorry to hear this, if there is anything I can do let me know. I'm sure you son will be fine. Where are you having the surgery? Both my sister and my brother in law are anesthesiologist both work on the island they haven't killed anyone yet. I'm sure you will be fine.

Walter,
I have had quite a few surgeries so far that have required me to be under anesthesia. Granted, you will wake up groggy and tired but you will wake up. I too have a fear and being out of control doesn't sit well. I too am an ex-athelete whose abused their body and we're almost the same proportions and size. Had rotator cuff surgery 3 yrs ago and am fine today. I still wipe my ass with the wrong hand but that's not important now.

Hang in there, you will get thru this and then you must focus on rehab. This will be the tell of how much this accident will affect your leg. More work, less affect.

Giddy up and safe travels

I too am available if you need anything.

Best to you...

Hey Walter,

Feel better and as others have said do due diligence with your therapy. Boxers are tough guys, I know you can do it.

I have had 2 surgeries in my life, both hernia ops at age 5 and age 45.
(guess I have been pulling my pud to hard since age 5!)
First one, I don't remember, second one, was a piece of cake.

I also was also put out for my colonoscopy, have you had one of those yet?
Someone your age should of and that is the same anesthesia they use.
If you haven't had one, you should!

Not gonna lecture you about health. I hang out with you.
I see first hand how you carry on in life.
If you accept this incident as a wake up call and try to get your body to a healthier state starting now, I think in the long run your family and friends will appreciate it!
Smoking has to cease.
Drinking (I am guilty there too).
Excercise would help, just do some walking or ride that bike you bought!
Ok, my .02! You will pull thru bud!

Walter...WTF.

We were hoping to see you and Denise at WH before the season is over.

Just goes to show that you never know what can happen. Although Dave's surgeries are not surprising.:)

Don't sweat it. You'll do fine but as Dave said, you may want to make a few changes.

Good luck. I'm sure everything will be fine.

Walter- sorry to hear of your accident. Prayers being said!

Walter - dont read this.

I had one and woke up in the middle of it facing the monitor. Thought I was watching teh movie "journey to the center of the earth" Didnt want to be up for it (and had no idea they where going to be pumping air up there!) Finaly was able to signal to them I was awake (aware) and they turned up the juice.

You will be fine Walt, and I agree this is a great opportunity to change course a bit and get healthier.

Good luck Walter, medicine has come a long way. You no longer need to bite on a bullet during the procedure. You will do fine - keep us posted so we can move our prayers to someone who really needs them..

Walter,
I feel for you and I'm sure all will work out. I had both Hand & Knee surgery this boating season and we left the doc very little- But saved a bunch on fuel ;-) we were lucky as that we moved the boat out east and have been using it more like a summer home and a base to explore the east end by car.
Again Good luck I'm sure all will be fine

Walter, sorry to hear it, but I'm sure you'll be fine after the surgery. I guess the bright side is if you're going to hurt yourself and not be able to go on the boat better off doing it Labor Day weekend then Memorial Day or July 4th :) If you need any help when it comes time to haul the boat let me know, I'm 5 minutes away.

John

John I am fat :) but no, I did get your post, thank you.

I've been under a couple of times. Twice for colonoscopys and once for surgery about three years ago. It was no big deal. When you come out of it you won't even know you're under.
I had to stand by when they put my daughter under for surgery when she was 6. That wasn't pleasant.
The surgeon suggested that either me or my wife escort her in and hold her hand until she was under. I stepped up because my wife couldn't do it. She did fine though.

I appreciate all the well wishes, and yes I have had two colonoscopys, now that was a trip, asked the doctor if he was going to kiss me before the procedure :) Last one was probably 4 years ago, don't really like going to doctors, but my mom had colon cancer, still alive and 12 years ago, so there is a history. Mark, got your message today and thank you for the call, I too will really miss seeing you at WH on Columbus Day Weekend, You know we all (my family) think the world of you and Pat. PS, even if we were there, Kristyn is done with twirling so we would not be hitting you and Pat up to buy raffle tickets :)

Many emails have been sent to me, and it does make me feel good, appreciate that and everyone offering to help me with the boat. Just kills me I can't do it myself, I love working on my boat more than using it, I know strange, but those that know know I am strange :)
If possible, I will take the ferry over to WH for the day, only been there once this year.

Thanks again

Walter
