They close it at 5 PM

Thanks, I did hear from some one that had trouble getting in last week and a friend of mine also damaged his boat but I wasn't sure exactly what happened!

The rockpile in bowline pond is marked with a fender. Keep it on your starboard side going in and to port on the way out.

This is why boats should not enter. Another boat on the wall. Not once but twice.

Do not trust that explicitly . I moved that there in the early spring since it had shifted from last but it is only an approximation. Since we were there at dead low and could not see the wall like we used to. Sandy must have knocked down the top and moved it around a bit. The fender is only on a small weight and can shift with the tide. I was going to mark the whole wall this year since its no longer visible but someone reminded me that I could now be held responsible if something were to happen. Many will be on that wall this year.

I would be careful telling people that. All boaters should enter and exit at their own risk, I would not tell anyone how to do it, now they can come back to you should something bad happen. Not that you would be responsible in the end, but tell that to the judge in court.

More like every weekend!

and as Hank said don't count on that float as the definitive marker of the end of the wall it more of an approximation it was as far as he could drag it while walking on the wall at low tide and it only tied to a block and can be moved easily. I still think it would be a good idea to throw a bunch of floats or fenders out to help protect others in the future!

It's only a "good idea" if you are willing to accept liability if you do it wrong and someone ends up on the rocks as a result of your action. Check with your insurance company and see what they think about it.

You mean to say if I throw a fender attached to a cinder block on the rock pile to mark it I can be sued sucessfuly by any one who hits the pile? That's a stretch. Can you sue the Coast Guard sucessfuly if you hit a snag in the river? They have juristiction out there. I'm not a lawyer but that seems silly. Maybe I'll mark it at night when no one is around to see me.

Like I suggested, why don't you ask your insurance company what they think of you marking a channel.

Get back to us with their answer.

I am marking a hazard, not a channel. I said keep the fender to starboard on the way in and to port on the way out. If you hit the pile you are on the wrong side of the fender.I have seen sailboats aground in Mineceongo's channel at low tide. Have they been sued for the Sea Tow bill sucessfully because they put the buoys out? Being next door you must pick up lots of cases.
