Well said Bill. I agree wholeheartedly Les gave a lot to many of us. I hope that I was able to give him a little in return.

Sail on Les, sail on.

Very sorry to hear this.

I would only hope to be able to face an illness like his with the humor and stoicism he showed here.

Very Sad to hear this. Was afraid that it was coming

To Elaine,
Elaine, I have known Les through the internet since before BoaterEd was ever conceived. While I have never met Les in person
we have talked on the phone many times, especially during the BoatFix days. I consider him to be my friend.
My loss is small compared to yours and your family's but it is real in my heart.
My sincere condolences to you and yours. He touched many lives in a way that few can in this day.

My deepest condolences to Les's family.
I had the pleasure of meeting Les and Elaine on 2 different occasions. I talked to him on several occasions by phone. He will be deeply missed.
RIP Les..

Sad news. He seemed to genuinely love this boating community (boatered), which he created, managed and cherished. We will miss him...

Sad news RIP Les.

All, please remember to get skin cancer screenings.

Since ‘99, Les maintained a website where boaters could learn from each other, get acquainted, become better, safer boaters. BoaterEd has always been more than just a website to me; BE soon became part of my daily routine. A place where one could get advice about boat repair, obtain local knowledge about waterways, debate politics, and even find out what’s for dinner at Bill D’s house.

The amount of knowledge I gained from 21 years of BE participation is immeasurable. It was time well spent.

RIP, Les.

My Condolences. RIP

Echoing the sentiment of many here, this site was part of my boating life for many years. My families love of boating and the memories will have created over the years are due in a large part to my education from the site and community provided by Les.

Sorry to hear the news, my condolences to his wife and family. I've met a lot of people through this site over the years thanks to Les setting it up.

Thanks to Les, for a couple of decades I have had lunch almost every day with scores of friends, of which I have only met one in person. As much as I miss that thick Boatfix catalog that came to the house in a plain white wrapper every year, I will miss Les much, much more. RIP GTBC.

This news is so heartbreaking and painful, like a kick in the stomach, it hurts and lingers. The class and dignity that Les displayed on a daily basis never left him. Look at the people on this thread - world class boaters all influenced one way or another by his subtile wit, humor and knowledge. Love to you Elaine and cheers to you GTBC...

Very sad news. Elaine, so sorry for your loss. Les and this site are what hooked me on boating for good many many years ago. I remember the lobster bake at Brian's house, with Les and Elaine, Steve (Rodney) and others. And our Christmas lunches each year for a few years. The GTBC was one of a kind, and even though I didn't see him much, or for quite a while, I feel a tremendous void right now in my heart. RIP Les. :(

I missed meeting him in person by a few minutes at the Ft.Lauderdale boat show years ago. Very sorry to hear that is the closest I'll ever come.

I am very sorry to hear of this news. I haven't logged in for some time and just recently found out via FB. Les was a great guy and although I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him in person, I held him in high regard. Rest easy Les, you're in good hands now.

Oh no, just saw this. All downwind sailing now, Les. So odd to think that we could be closer to someone just on BE than old friends in real life. Rest easy, Skipper.
