SPBM Bill

Wayne,

Seems quite a few people already did that for the winter. You have LOTS of room in the yard while surrounding marinas are filled to the rafters.

Seriously thou, you seem to be missing the key fact that this is a discussion forum. Where people are supposed to discuss things, both pro and con.

No one forces you to read it.

Now I for one don't want you or anyone else to leave this forum but how would you feel if I said to you, "If you don't like what is said here then LEAVE"?

Not really a great thing to say now is it?

Comparing SPBM to other "deepwater" marinas miles away, is irrelevant.

The point of this discussion is that people there feel that they are being unfairly nickled and dimed to death - without prior notice. That is no way to run a marina.

Comparing SPBM to other marinas in the area is relevant, and helpful in assisting people in their decsion as to where they want to keep their boat.

Wayne, it appears a lot of people have already voted with their feet as far as winterization is concerned, how many will move elsewhere for the summer is yet to be seen.

The public bitching won't bode well with the owner of SPBM. "My way or the highway"

Money is tight in the business, expecially when you pay $1 Million for a lot that sits empty and generates no income.

The owner will do what he thinks is best to get as much money as he can out of his renters.

Been there done that.

If they chase everyone out, there won't be any renters and he won't be making any money.

Each person has to decide what is important to them, what they are willing to pay for that, and make their own decsion.

There were quite a few open slips there last year Hogan. Granted, G-dock was filled since whenever a spot opens up people move over from D-dock or the north part of the marina to be closer to the pool. The Willow Cove end had a large number of openings last year. IIRC D-dock was not filled to capacity either. I have a feeling there will be more openings this coming summer. Also, wasn't B-dock shutdown due to being in a state of disrepair and the occupants moved to other slips? That would tend to make things look fuller than they really were.

Yet, Penny Bridge, another marina in the area, not known for it's "deep water" and has no pool, was filled as was Patsy's.

I understand it's everyone's own choice to stay or leave, people have left in the past due to either problems or wanted a change, but alot came back to SPBM. They came back for the marina and as I said in the past the friends they left behind. I don't agree with things that go on, but it is a nice marina with great people.

You know first hand how he ran people out of Stony Point marina, you were there when I was and that place emptied out. You Richey, Joe were the only ones left at the end.

I remember how I had to buy a new shower curtain for the shower there. The place went into disrepair and I suspect that can happen at SPBM too.

Nothing against anyone personally, but business' are run differently by each owner. Some do it right, some don't.

When that marina business isn't your main livelihood, like others are, you see that in the product and service they offer to their customers.

Nothing worse than an absentee landlord.

Yep, once he loses interest, it's a quick downward spiral.

So do you think things will get better or worse if we all just bury our heads in the sand and take it?

In the immortal words of Homer J. Simpson: "I was going to hide under some coats, and hope that somehow everything will work out".

Anyone that doesn't like the way SPBM does things, LEAVE

The rest of us will have more room

Somebody help me out please. Is wciparchia and owner of SPBM?

If he is, and this is his attitude, my decision would be easy.

No Pete, Wayne Corts owns the marina.

Try not to confuse paying for a wet spot to keep your boat in during the summer boating season with Winter storage and mechanical work. Many people move off site for the winter as well as people who bring the boat they summer slip elsewhere to SPBM for the winter. It boils down to where you have a comfort zone. In the summer SPBM offers a great enviroment with fantastic people and good areas on land (pool, picnic areas, grills and close plentyfull parking). SPBM is very large (not Haverstraw size) and a business that large will not make everyone happy. It just comes down to making a choice of where to spend your money. At the end of the day Wayne has an investment and he wants to keep it running at a profit.

From a business perspective. Which would you rather have?
For instance:
100 happy customers paying you $1000 a month
Or
75 annoyed customers paying you $1333 a month

The total revenue is about the same, but the first option would allow a company a comfort level that the revenue will most likely continue from year to year. The second option leaves recurring revenue as an unknown for the next season.
This whole thread has nothing to do with money in my eyes, it’s just a matter of how you present it to your clients. There is no doubt people are happy all summer long at SPBM, but how much of that is attributed to the marina and not the members.

If things get to a point where things are really bad I'll decide what to do, but right know I like spending my summers in SPBM. And I agree with wciparchia if someone is not happy with service or management then leave, no one is making anyone stay.

I do as well -- overall, it's really been great being at SPBM, both myself and the Admiral have made many friends and the marina has helped us be very comfortable. Don't plan on leaving any time soon, and am looking forward to a great summer!

It's good to see that everything worked out in the end...

The END!

We have 2 more months to bitch and moan about things...

Somehow I believe the bitching will continue long after the boats splash. After all how much can we complain about the weather, and the cost of fuel?
