Buoys 2015

March 25th 2003,
I took delivery of a brand new 290 Amberjack, no more than 30 minutes after leaving SS3, I did the same thing you did Rob in almost the same place. I was not paying attention to the channel, was playing with all the new to me buttons at the helm :)

Walt,
I wish i could blame being distracted. It was the beginning of the season and they just had installed big 5mph signs in the north/south channel outside gilgo . Snotty day, overcast, windy thought the new sign was east west channel maker and just headed right to it .... Never once did i look behind me. Totally my fault .. i simple look to the east ( stern ) and i would have noticed my mistake. Even a distraction would have made me recognize i was out of the channel. NOW there is a way point at that location ... lol... HAve to laugh... I go down that channel every weekend it will always be my WTF ......

Then theres Don " Smile for the Camera buddy " ... Love that guy

Rob

Did a boat delivery on Monday from Patchogue River to Merrick Bay and can attest buoys no where to be seen. Took the Amity cut home.. All in all, uneventful!

Dock builders working in BWYC said the state channel markers were mostly all missing and were in the process of being replaced, any truth ?

Rob

I was surprised to see no buoys in north channel.
It's end of April already.
They are usually in by the time I go in.

All in here in merrick Just one maker missing in state channel by gilgo... NO seals : (

oh and no fishing *******S to report yet either... ( figured id get that base covered too )

Rob

No buoys lindy cut or north channel.
Maybe the forgot.
I really don't feel like my tax dollars are working.
No buoys. Roads are crap. Garbage everywhere.

Maybe less expensive politicions with fancy cars and lunches and more fix the infrastructure.

And the low tides are exceptionally low! Now all bases are covered..

What is the North Channel?

HEs talking about the east /west on the north side as oppose to the state channel on the south side

Rob

That Channel on charts in called the North Channel and runs east and west along long island.
West Channel just east of Robert Moses Bridge runs up from North Channel to Fire Island and intersects with Dickersons Channel which runs on the angle coming under the bridge.
Range Channel runs up from North by Nicol Point and intersects East Channel which runs up from Connetquot towards Fire island and turns west at Sailors Haveb and parrallels the island until Farm Shoals channel over by Saltaire/kismet.
Fox Creek Channel is also called the Lindy Cut.
Then there is the amityville cut.
And we all know the state channel.
I think that covers the channels in our immediate boating area!!!

Still no buoys in Lindy Cut I hear.
But looked at local notice to mariners and saw this:

STRUCT DEST = Structure Destroyed

When the F are they going to fix this ... They have been MIA for months.

One at gilgo and the one at Zachs bay are pretty fing important... Im pretty fed up with these Government agency's not doing their prospective jobs.

Towns had no problem Iding a missing structure and tossing in a temp buoy.

I really give up

Speaking of taxes, I live in Syosset and pay what I view as pretty high taxes for what we get. Especially now that my kids are done with public school - Wow, I am gettin old. The roads in my immediate area are terrible. And they were pretty bad before this winter. I truly love living here, mostly because of the boating and our friends. Does it do any good complaining, or are we just screwed on this Island. If I was to attempt to make some noise, where do I start?

Start with highway dept but don't expect much.
In my house 13 years.
Every year plow destroys by curb because he thinks road is straight but my corner juts out a little further than corner before it.
Every year I call and complain as I collect pieces of concrete from my front lawn and put them back at curb.
Nothing
No fix.
I am sure the superintendent of highway has nice curbs and no potholes.
It's a poor system with no oversight.
Tax dollars go to their town paid cars, lunches, and nice offices.

Here in Nassau county I had a problem with the street. I called the town. The town advised it was Highway dept . Called highway got the run around for a few weeks. I actually emailed Kate Murry. ( TOH supervisor ) as just a hail mary. I got an email from Kates office. A call from High dept and it was repaired in a few weeks.

My point keep running it up the ladder until u hit the top. I was pretty surprised i got a reply. Its the 2nd time Ms Murry came tru after an email

Rob

Kate Murray and her office should all drop dead. Thanks to her our taxes are going to go up big time next year

Not expecting much of a response, but I will give it a try. Thanks.
