Are they fing serious ??????????? What part of AIDE to navigation dont they comprehend ?

if anything we need more not less..... Again the government should be removed from this and a private party installed and funded.

Guys ,
State channel buoys that are missing a very critical. Especially but not limited to the ones between the lindenhurst cut and Babylon cut. SO keep ur eyes open. was not fun in the fog today .

Glad I went west from the Lindenhurst cut in today's pea soup. Missing buoys in the State Channel is not good, especially between the Lindy and the Babylon cut - definitely not a straight run.
 
You talking North Channel or South (state) Channel?
I ran from AYC thru Lindy Cut, buoys there.
At South end of Lindy Cut it got alot tighter from shoal and then inside that 5 mph area it looks different to me, seems the land on the west side juts out more. Then I ran from Lindy Cut to Babylon Cut and the buoys were all there, well the reds were, no greens.
Then I ran North in Babylon Cut and buoys were there but the pole that marks the turn was not, so you have to swing wide.
Then in North Channel there is no buoys but they show on chart so I followed those and my cookies.

It's a mess. Something tells me it ain't gonna get fixed and we are gonna have to learn to deal.
It's ok if you have old trails but went on friend's new formula and he doesn't and in fog it's freaking annoying and scary!
 
Dave , south side. East of Lindy they all used to be matched set. Key word used to be

Yeah I just saw reds and hung tight to red.

Email from AYC this morning says the buoys are all in, not sure what that means.
 
Just looking from the end of my canal (a little west of Indian Island) this weekend, I didn't see any buoys.
 
Boat went in at Tanner Park 7:00 AM this morning. Quick run from there, back to my canal (a little east). Although there were buoys to get in and out of Tanner Park to the North Channel (runs east/west), there were no buoys in the North Channel for as far east as I could see.
I know the channel pretty well, but on Memorial Day weekend, during low tides, it might get pretty interesting for others who need 3 or 4 feet of water and don't use it all the time .

I think the same guy who designed the new ramp and poles at Tanner Park with the bolt heads not recessed must be in charge of the buoys now. I wonder who he is related to...............
 
Guess the AYC email was just the lindy cut buoys.
We need the north channel buoys and I asked Seatow and they wrote:

The CG Aids to Nav team is overwhelmed because of all the damage from the ice this winter. They are proposing not replacing certain buoys, but we are not certain what will happen at this point.

All I can say is don't assume any buoy is there or right this year.
I am sure there will be plenty of groundings.
 
Seatow just posted on facebook that North Channel buoys are in West of the bridge!

State channel marker "red 12 " is outside zachs
Green 15 is the turn from north south to east west. ITs the olny channel marker showing where to turn and is 100% required and its missing. the above states lighting changes but thats hard to do on something thats gone !
RED 22 is in front of tobay
red 32 is at gilgo
green 41 is outside hemlock and is the only green buoy in the area.

These buoys are needed. With a channel as narrow as we have its unthinkable to not have these aides as reference points. Especially given how how stretched out these aids are to begin with. Seasoned people can get away with local knowledge . new boaters and out of towners would be screwed ! Man u cant fix stupid ... this is proof .

Dear Mr. McLaughlin,
I am writing in reference to the above named project. As you may or may not know the Great South Bay is a giant sandbox. The bay constantly is shifting and channels change. The above project is eliminating some key buoys and day markers. As a seasoned Captain I am sure I will be okay. I also have plenty of bread crumb trails. But what about the new boater? You are creating a new hazard on a already hazardous body of water.

I would like you to reconsider this project. Buoys are the life blood of our bay. We need everyone we can get. If this is a cost cutting issue then perhaps we need to understand this so we can write our congressman to get what we need.

if u didnt already send mention a very over crowded and narrow section of waterway which adds to the complexity of navigating this area.
