Carver 44 Sojourn PICS

Walter,
would love to hear your comments and overall thoughts on the boat? Was the layout not good? Engine room access bad? Too ugly? too expensive?? What did you like and what did you not like?

I guess I am wondering also Woodsong. As far as competitive models out there, I don't believe there are any...especially with IPS as standard equipment. That being said, I have not seen the boat in person...love the boat in pics. We have one coming for our January boat show in Cleveland...until then...I still like it :-)

I've got real mixed thoughts on IPS. I am sure they are amazing, great, and all that. However, the few used boats I've looked at were priced WAY higher than the same make/model/year that did not have the IPS. Sellers had to take a massive hit financially just to get out of the boat and basically had to reprice their boats not much above the non-IPS boats. I guess my point is I am not sure the IPS cost is worth it in the end, at least if you look at what the depreciation is later down the road.

Tony,
It was one of those boats that you just say WTF, it costs how much? I did not give it an extensive look over because very quickly it was 1, 2, and 3 this boat is not for me. I would think that the IPS system would make for great engine room access, it would also contribute to the high price, remember, the price I saw "boat show special" was approaching 600k.

I will look at more this weekend at the Tobay Boat Show, and give you a little more to bite on. Other than the look, the cold salon, and a salon that I felt for the price was not up to par (size) was that the boat did not have traditional lines, fugly. I think the look could grow on me, so the fugly aspect was not so much of an issue. One issue was walking to the bridge certainly would not be safe in rough seas; there was a spot that was pretty open an conducive to falling overboard. The bridge was weird, the captains seat felt like you were sitting on the floor.

I've noticed the same thing on a lot of meridians...the helm chair always feels like I am sitting on the floor! :) Take pictures of the boat when you see it at the next boat show- curious about this boat!

Tony,
IMHO, Your boat has it all over this boat. What you don't have is diesel, IPS, and a hardtop. One of the problems I had was that the boat I saw before this boat was a 45c Silverton, no IPS, but diesel, 3 staterooms, and roughly 150k more. But the difference between the two boats was NIGHT AND DAY.

I also looked at the 44 Searay Sedan Bridge, nice looking boat, not much more than the Carver, did not have IPS, but was diesel. If you think I was tough on the Carver, I would own that before the 44 Searay Sedan bridge.
The Searay is a pretty boat, it came across as a more beefy boat, once inside the boat I wanted to puke. WTF were they thinking with the layout and the colors.

I really want a Searay, love those Searay parties. But they need to get real IMHO.

LOL, what was the matter with the layout and the colors on the Sea Ray 44???

Damn that's one ugly vessel.
Typical late model Carver (crap) design... no opening windows.
I guess they think everyone boats in Florida and just runs the genny as soon as they unplug.(so they can run the A/C they need because of no opening windows LOL)

I would like to see some more pix of the cockpit. It doesn't look all that large from the pix in the initial post.
