There are bathrooms near the south basin, but there's no doubt - those docks are FAR AWAY (and dirty). As a result, Pier 11 fills up quickly. I wish CP would make an effort to encourage cruising groups to fill up the transient docks. Part of the problem is that they're about 15% full during the week, so the birds move in. It would be cleaner, and more fun if there were more boats there more often.
They also don't have staff down there very often. I feel bad for transients who try to get into those slips with a strong wind and no uprights w/o help. Kenny, I know you guys didn't mind pivoting off the low docks, but now that the rubber is falling apart, I wouldn't do it. I'd do a no-touch, or a no-go.
I just had an idea. What if they had offered permanent slips in the south basin at a reduced rate, and then split Pier 14 like they did 11 - with transients on one side, permanent on the other? They could upcharge 14 for transients who really care about location, and send "boaters" like that sailboat to the other side. Those people who come to their boat 2x a year probably don't care much where the dock is, but most transients feel like Mike does - they're really bummed about being assigned the penalty box.
