Since moving our boat to this AWESOME marina...I have had more enjoyment out of it than I ever had before. Let everyone know your thoughts on this truely unique boating destination.

That's cause you have the best Dock Neighbors in the world there!!! :O)

Huh. I've heard that Dock 14 can be kind of snobby. :)

i think it sucks that they moved the transients so far away. it was cool being right by the entrance/bathhouse/Millenium

Sorry Mike...but I'm kinda happy as that is where my dock is. Right by Millenium Force, and it IS awesome! I agree though...I wouldn't want to be in the parking lot either, but you can request to be on peir 11, but you'll have to pay for the dock size (50') reguardless of what size your boat is

There are bathrooms near the south basin, but there's no doubt - those docks are FAR AWAY (and dirty). As a result, Pier 11 fills up quickly. I wish CP would make an effort to encourage cruising groups to fill up the transient docks. Part of the problem is that they're about 15% full during the week, so the birds move in. It would be cleaner, and more fun if there were more boats there more often.

They also don't have staff down there very often. I feel bad for transients who try to get into those slips with a strong wind and no uprights w/o help. Kenny, I know you guys didn't mind pivoting off the low docks, but now that the rubber is falling apart, I wouldn't do it. I'd do a no-touch, or a no-go.

I just had an idea. What if they had offered permanent slips in the south basin at a reduced rate, and then split Pier 14 like they did 11 - with transients on one side, permanent on the other? They could upcharge 14 for transients who really care about location, and send "boaters" like that sailboat to the other side. Those people who come to their boat 2x a year probably don't care much where the dock is, but most transients feel like Mike does - they're really bummed about being assigned the penalty box.

Hi Mike,

I understand your feelings about the transient docking at Cedar Point... I heard you may have to reserve a spot on the transient pier 11 like a year in advance for the weekends. It would be nice as SLW mentioned if they could at least keep it cleaned up over there.

The bath house near the south basin at least has Air Conditioning.. it would be nice if we could get a new bath house w/AC on our end.

Ram, Yes pier 14 Rules.. and it's not like it's on the other side of the world - as some have indicated.

of course not. We're just kidding you about your docks being in China. Ever since NAFTA, it's no problem visiting you guys! :)

no problem. do you know if there's an in-flight movie? is the snack peanuts or pretzels? ...and what time zone is Pier 14 in again?

I've thought of docking there overnight and visiting the park for a day. Does anyone have the phone # and who to talk to about transient slips there? How far of a walk is it to the park?
Dogdaze-I'll let you know if/when we make it down there.....I still owe you a beer!

Chris

Chris,

Call the marina office at (419) 627-2334 or 888-CP-DOCKS. They'll take reservations for transient dockage. As we've been discussing, there are 50 ft slips on Pier 11, which is right behind the Famous Dave's / Marina Office building. That's a prime location, as even the luckiest people arriving by car will have a longer walk to get into the park. Being so prime, it costs more and they're very often fully-booked. Pier 11 is also constructed of the 8-year old vinyl docks - very much like Bay Points (but different planking).

If you can't get on 11, then you'll be assigned a slip in the south basin, which is about even with the middle-spots in the parking lot as far as distance goes. The docks over there were relocated from the Castaway Bay / The Harbor marina, and they've seen better days. It's a hike to get to the store, office, fuel dock and Famous Dave's, but in the grand scheme of things, you'll walk for MILES once inside the park, so adding 1200 feet within the marina might not be such a big deal.

Pier 11 is the pier just on the far side of the building in this pic. The entrance to the park is at the theatre, which is the large building to the right of the Power Tower (in the pic). The marina gate into the park is about as convenient as they come.

The transient docks aren't shown. They're in a separate basin that is below the far lower-right corner of this pic.

No movie SLW. It's a cheap flight, so bring your own alco...er...food

I always do! The flight isn't the only cheap thing about Dock 14! [:-bonc01]

huh... I've noticed that the boats with the good stuff also have guard dogs!

SLW-
THANKS! I'm going to try to make it yet this year. I will try for pier 11(most likely we'll go during the week and maybe something will open up)but if not oh well.

Chris

SLW, we do have Boarder Patrol roaming around.... you know looking for those illegals from pier 1. Then you have to get past Linda L... and the lighted chicken dock master.

Once near our slip, you'd better have dog treats in your back pocket or an Old English Sheepdog will run you over and lick you to death anyway.. just because.. btw, it's the Guard Dog over on "The Dog House" you need to watch out for. He shows his teeth!!!!

Chris,
Yes, I've been a little thirsty lately, so looking forward to that beer... :) let me know if/when you plan to come over... my email address is shadow7118 at AOL. We can discuss docking options.
