Marinas

We wanted to thank everyone fort thier imput... It was a huge help. Were spending the seasn at Skipjack cove and look forward to meeting and having a memorable summer with our family.

I too live in NJ (freehold) and have my boat at Chesapeake Yacht Club (West River). IT is 195 miles one way but, and here is the main reason. The West river is near everything by boat.

When considering the main reason for owning a boat on the Chesapeake (best boating on the East Coast)is to be centrally located. 2 hours Baltimore, 1 hour St. Michaels, 30 min Annapolis. The trade off is a longer commute to the boat, but the cost of land travel vs. baot travel in fuel more than makes up for the extra road time.

I leave my house on Friday afternoon and return Monday afternoon. A 5 hour RT and get to spend 72 hours on the boat..Not a bad trade off.

I agree with everything you said about the chesapeake wouldn't have my boat anywhere else..I also live in N.J. Can I ask how you get to the west river..down 301 and cross the bay bridge or do you take 95 down the western shore ? Joe

Either way baycruiser. Once you cross the Bay Bridge, you would take Rt. 2 south about 35 minutes to a left on Galesville Rd. or a little further to Shady Side for the other side of the West River. It is beautiful cruising grounds.

Capt Ed. We were posted the other day for membership to CYC. Looked there 10 yrs. ago, but didn't want to keep boat there, but retirement has helped that situation. We have asked for #218 on Middle Dock. Looking forward to it!
If all works as planned,,see ya there in April

Welcome. The club is better than ever, dredged out slips, great Chef, Great officers and members.
Look Forward to seeing you there in April

Julian,

We last had a 38' Silverton Convertible on B Dock. Depending on the weather the monthly electric bill ran from a low of about $10 up to a high one time of almost $50 when the weather was hot and humid. During the summer months we programmed our AC unit to run on the dehumidify mode when we were away from the boat during the week which naturally drove the bill towards the high mark (but keep the boat comfortable and mold free!!!). Our monthly account from Skipjack was mostly charges for gas and charges at Signals. The electric was not a major expense.

Dusty, Welcome to CYC! I'm on New Dock....You should be very close to the Thrasher's.

Mike

Thanks Mike, We aren't in yet, or know we will be over there, but hopeful there won't be any problems.

Thanks Mike.
I pick up my boat from Gunpowder cove in the next couple of weeks. Maryjo said I can bring it in 2 weeks early for no additional charge. Im just chompin at the bit to get in it

Tell Mary Jo that Kathy & Mike Heffron said Hi!

BTW, just to give you an idea about the C Dock "family", yesterday I was at the memorial service for the great C Dock lady that recently past away... there was quite a turnout from C Dock folks.

Julian,

Congrats! We are just up the Rt 73 from you in Marlton. This season will be our 6th season at SJC. Our son was 7 when we started and is now 12. We chose SJC mainly for him. I understand getting your kids to love boating is one major route to boating longevity. And he loves it.

We are in J dock. After spending our 1st season in Wildwood, NJ with an Express Cruiser, the relative open/deeper waters of the Sassafras, no greenhead flies or no-see-ums, and frequent no-wakes on the ICW, SJC and the Sassafras have been great. With smaller children, the drive (about 1.5 hours from Marlton) is just about right.

There is now no-smoking at Signals (as is the rest of MD I guess) and we have limited going there because there was no separate smoking session really. But, we intend to go more often now.

Annapolis and Baltimore are each a 2 hr cruise from SJC at 30MPH.

But, you will get plenty of advice from your new friends at SJC on all these.

Good Luck on your first season.

Joe

Thanks for the info Joe. Please feel free to come by C19 and say hi. It seems like a great place with wonderful people... I cant wait to get there and enjoy.
Wow you live real close to us...

Are most marinas open on April 1st? Would I be the only one if I bring in to the marina early... Dont want to look too much like a rookie :)

Don't sweat it. They will be launching boats by then and besides, if you're there early the others who are on the hard will just be jealous!

I did not get launched until the first week in May last season and there were only a few boats in on "C" dock. We had a bad spring so everyone was a little late. There is not much activity down there during April anyway.

Don't sweat it Julian, you will still be a rookie on "C" dock this season anyway. :)

Julian,
Craig is right. Regardless of when you arrive, what boat you have or how much beer you pass around to your C-Dockmates you will be known as the "FNG" for at least this season. I'll let you work out the meaning of "FNG". :)

I may be new to the click on C dock but I have been around... and yes I do know im the f ing new guy. And at 40 yrs old with a 30 yr old wife I guess im the baby too..lol
