I believe his position is pretty well known from the multiple versions of this post in the past two years.

In fact this post is probably just an attempt at baiting him trying to get a response

Don't know what you mean Mike. His position seems to be that there is nothing wrong. The members seem to feel differently.

REALLY ??????

I'm sure this post has a meaningful constructive purpose that would benefit BE, but I can't see what it is. Can the OP maybe explain what it is?

On a good note, lot's less to catch up with here now. 5 years ago, I would be away for a week then get on this site, there would be over a thousand new posts. Now I only see a hundred or less. LOL

Apparently the only 2 folders with any consistency are ATC and LICC.....

You can call yourself member or whatever you want but it's not your site. I've never thought I had a vote on how things run. You are a paying customer that's all.

Perhaps the site owner has reached a point in his life that he no longer cares if his enterprise is the biggest or most active but is happy to run a small bar where people who want to hang out can and if you crave excitement or being the biggest maybe you need to look elsewhere and that's ok too. For those that are happy enjoy, for those that are not happy don't demand that somehow.changes need to be made to make you happy, it's not all about you.

================================================

I have learned a great deal on this Forum, and established some friendships as well.

As time went on I was able to help some ROs, particularly those with the same Brand as mine.

Perhaps I am obsessed with the whole boating thing, it's lasted for over 20 years.

I really enjoyed checking into this site daily to see what was going on. I truly do miss the buzz, the sharing, the personal stuff, the regional stuff, the humor and the level of activity that used to predominate this site.

No foul, no harm intended.

I was simply sharing that yearning with the Forum.

Clearly I am not alone.

Well it's hard to argue with that logic.

Ignor your customers concerns, let them know it's not all about them and yup, pretty soon you will have a nice small failing business.

And Mike wont have anywhere to post his opinions.

Les has, in the past, encouraged peoples opinions on BE operation and I haventheard that anything has changed in that area Mike.

I am on other sites now but still think BE has the best organization but without new customers there is little to talk about.

The diesel boat especially "trawlers" has become a very active demographic as people age aout of sailboats and smaller day boats yet little of that traffic comes here.

Or a nice hobby for a retired tow boat captain and his friends that like to stay in touch. It was never a "business" and that was made clear years ago. There used to be an associated parts "business" but that is long gone. The website was always seperate and operated just covering costs through optional subscriber fees and lately ad revenue.

Not to speak for Les who is well able to speak for himself if he chooses too but if it were my site I wouldn't be excited with growth and the demands it put on my time but would operate it for as long as I was enjoying it for those users who are happy for the site for what it is. I for one enjoy the "intimacy" of a smaller site as I can follow posters and learn over time who's comments are valuable and well informed and who is just an empty suit. I expect others have also done the same and understand what topics I can contribute to with knowledge and what is just uninformed noise, and yes I do both.

Well if there are no, in your words, "customers" and this really isn't an "enterprise" then I guess you are right this time Mike. It's just a club that doesn't really care if there are any new members or not.

Oh well. I hope at least somebody tells the advertisers here that news.

Agree w/ this.

Sure I will, there just won't be anybody listening, but that's no different than now. :)

I think boat in many areas is still going down. In my marina here on lake Michigan, it gets more empty every year. 3 of my neighbors didn't come back this year. They where regulars.

There used to be a waiting list in my marina for any kind of slips and storage but not any more.

Golf and Willaim:
The larger 35+ diesel cruiser action seems high. everyone wants a "trawler" and to do the loop. Paste the name trawler on anything and people are lined up even if they don't have any idea what they are looking at. They are migrating from sail and smaller gas boats and really need a lot of education but mostly they pass myths back and forth.

This is an active demographic we seem unable to attract.

I see the price of oil coming down to $2.00 once Iran begins to ramp up production.
