So what DO you do in CT???

I think folks that live in CT vote democratic!

Seriously...giolic, you must mean that you can't carry those concealed on your person without a concealed carry permit? Surely you are not saying that handguns are banned from CT????

No worries with us and no problems so far. Unfortunately I live in a very restrictive state. I'll use the flare pistol if needed, then a quick call to the authorities on channel 16 and the cell phones should do it.

Pleez, guys. Reduce the size of the big gun photos.

Okay, fine - how?

Go to Photobucket, hit "edit", then "resize" then select 680 X whatever size for bulletin boards. Easy.

Did that - and no change to the picture. Yes, i re pasted the link too.

Wow, I don't even close the companionway door, nevermind lock it. Hatches open catching all the fresh air. Never even considered carrying a gun on the boat. Never once had any incident.

As a matter of fact, when I saw the subject of this thread, I assumed it was going to be a discussion about anchoring properly and preventing anchors from dragging.

I recall that some states (NY included) viewed flare pistols as firearms, with all attendant restraints, when within state boundaries. It might be worth checking to see where this is the case.

Can't wait to read about a boat sinking because someone shot a hole threw the hull. Never had a problem on the hook most criminals around here are scared of the water anyway. The police drag at least one body a month out of a canal running from them and they jump in and can't swim.

I took special note that the Benelli Nova H20 will accept 12ga pyrotechnics ( ie: flares ). That means you can use it as a backup to that rinky-dink plastic flare pistol. Excellent. Redundancy is your friend.

For that matter, change the load out: put a flare in first then the OO, slug, #2. Good psychological effect!

Yes .. you got it right Tony.. I thought I got the post under ITK's. Carry without a permit and your in deep crap, Don't ask. Best thing to happen if you ever get in trouble is a long list of violations so the lawyers on both sides can decide what they want to hang you with and what to throw out...

No Paranoia KING. Just making comment about the law.

Paranoid is the cop that pulls someone over and not knowing what might be in the glove box as they approach the car :)

Brian, Don't forget to have these guys check in the weapons when they get to your house.

Yikes !!!

Get caught carrying one of those 4 in CT without a permit and it's 365 days in jail " Minimum Mandatory Sentence " for those who might not know what that is.... plan on 1 yr minimum with lots of friends you'd rather not have.

Otherwise.... VERY NICE

One of the draw backs of boating in RI waters is I often find myself in CT, MA, and for that matter, NY waters.

Fortunately, I am covered in all states.

From the Board of Firearms Permit Examiners hand book in CT.

Q 1. What permits are required for carrying or transporting pistols and revolvers?

A. There are two permits to be obtained in Connecticut. The local permit may be obtained from the town in which you reside or own a business. The State permit may be obtained from the Connecticut State Police Special Licensing and Firearms Division.

Q 2. Does my local permit to carry pistols and revolvers permit me to carry (or transport) handguns anywhere in Connecticut?

A. No, only within the city, town, or borough for which the local permit is issued. A state permit must be obtained in order to carry (or transport) handguns anywhere else within the State.

having a pistol in your possession vs. concealed carry permit are 2 different things...at least here in GA. I can own and travel with a handgun here in GA without a carry permit...just can't keep it on my person and concealed without a concealed carry permit.

Same way here in MS. I wonder if any of those norther states mentioned are recipritory states?

Oh, and an ak47, 6 hollow point shells loaded in weapon....D........

I go boating to relax and de-stress...glad I do not live where you guys do..no need for firearms at all here...never had any problems at all when at anchor nor at the dock. I do not own any firearms as no need nor want for them.

I don't keep a gun on board but we do lock the doors and I'm a light sleeper. Cell phones are also kept handy with two kids away at school.

I'll second the comment about not surprising ROs in the night and am definitely not going to rush over to say hi to Andy (abalmuth) after dark. :)

WOW! kinda makes me afraid to go out on the water anymore withh all you gun toating gun owners out there on the water.

I dont see the need for any guns on board unless you are traveling in international waters and are worried about modern day pirates, but locally? Give me a break!

Guns kill people, thats all they do, they do not offer you any protection what so ever unless you draw it out and intend to shoot to kill, because thats what they are designed to do, not scare someone or protect you.

You should all take a martial arts coarse to protect yourselves. I can guarentee that pointing a loaqded weapon at me in close quarters would be a deadly outcome for the gun toater. And I would not need a weapon of any sort.........Kahmsahhahmneedah..........

You really think there's room for a martial arts-defense inside the cabin of a small boat? I'd rather just point and pull... Guns kill people, huh? By that reasoning, pencils misspell words, spoons and forks make you fat.

S&W 645,collapsable baton, and 20 in Law Enforcement. That way I can respond in the degree that is necessary from non letahl to lethal. I noticed no one really mentioned pepper spray. Especially here in Wyoming it could serve dual purpose for intruders both human and animal(bruin)

Where are these dangerous places you guys are so concerned about protecting yourselves from? I know if a boater was murdered or burgled while on his boat it would make it on to this board for the usual autopsy. I can't recall a single incident. Some Ro's here seem scarier than the bad guys out there.
