Trojan 440 Upgrades, Fixes and Ideas

Today's goal was to stop the rain water coming in from the anchor locker. So I took all the chain out only to find out that very little water can get in that way. So it is back to square one to find out where the water comes from. I now think it may be going forward from the garage. I am going to try putting a few gallons in the bilge there and see if it goes forward. There is a bilge pump in there about 4" above the bottom of the bilge but at rest the forward bilge is lower than at the aft so the water could potentially run forward. On of my goals is to seal up the garage door so maybe that will solve it. I still am going to need to put a through hull in the anchor locker though.

I have two drain hole in my locker.

Let be know how you seal the garage.

Same like Dave, 2 of them. I don't think the water is coming from the garage, my garage is very dry but not my forward and mid bilge. Also my engine room bilge is pretty dry. In my boat I know I am getting water from under the bed in the second (port) state room, I think it is from the hose that run from the ad water pump to the salon ac system.

All,
I figured out how to seal the lazerette/garage. I used an automotive seal product attached to the lip as the garage is opened. I had 0 water. I will have to get the part number however it is on the boat. The only modification that is needed is it needs to be glued in, similar to a door seal on a car. This spring I will take pictures and post.

Let us know Bob. Or at least me. :-)

Allen. I occasionally get the same problem. If you pull up the hatch, look at where your shower sump exits to the through hull. The is a small bilge on the other side of that hole and rain water is getting in there. When there is enough to over flow it gets down in the bilge in that stateroom. I think it is the hose from the vent or from the windshield drain where they connect to the thru hull. The bad part is it connects to this galley bilge and if left unchecked will make it look like this
null-159.jpg

And this was not an accessible area. I am going to plug the hole between the two since once I have the new floors in it will be unaccessible again. Once I figure out how to access the through hulls I will fix those too.

It can also come from your shower sump when you run the air but not the sump. Learned that one the hard way.

We will eventually figure it out. When i opened the hatches All my hatches in the salon were dry. I do know those holes between the upper bilge and the bilge where the pumps are but I don't see much track of water. Maybe I will drain some color water and try to track it from the vent and anchor room.

Stary was it something like that?

Just wanted to understand what Bob was using. I think they sell them in autozone

The bilge in the garage is not conected to the forward bilges. it's not easy to keep the water out. I also attached a seal to the bottom of the lid, it is a door seal from any hardware store. it has a stiff edge that goes in a grove on a door frame, I also added a seal, used on the bottom of garage doors, to the edge of the garage where it goes from flat and drops into the bottom, The lipp forms a dam to stop any water that may get there.

I think it does Odvar. In the trunk there is a PVC tube through the bulk head but it does not come out in the engine room side. And on the bulkhead in the saloon in front of the water tank there is a PVC tube going in but not out in the engine room either. It is my belief this tube runs from the trunk to the saloon under the engine room bilge. Maybe next weekend I will dump a few bucketsof water in there and see where it goes. I'll figure it out one way or another though. No reason to have water in the cabin.

Never noticed that. I will have to take a look at mine, I need to paint the floor in the garage any way so I will remove and double check. It just might be a good explanation!

Allen,
Initially I started out with stick tape seal similar to that however it would not last from opening and closing and would move or slide around. Then I came upon a D-ring weather seal. It looks like this with a D seal attached to it. I am looking at different types of glue or silicon that would work with it. I currently have it crimped on, however it loosens up after so many opening and closing.

Thanks Bob. Did you see my question about the props?

Yes, I responded, unless you have a new question.

John, I'm sure mine is not conected, you must have another setup. For years I have had a leak somewhere, water gets in when I'm running. No it does not come from the lid. I have a door weather strip that looks like a P and the stiff leg is screwed to the bottom lip of the garage lid. Glue like Bob said does not hold up. One day I will get in there underway and find the leak!

Hi
Here are some shots of stuff I have done to mine. Like: full extension soft close drawerglides, more wood veneer and formica, "wood" blinds, stepps to to get up to the aft deck. I have no leaks in my canvas at the arch. Reshaped fender box aft, great to sit on and my BQ mounts there in a rod holder. Got to have a bar!

odvar, I love the new trunk lid. Who did it? How much did it cost (if I might ask)?

Did your galley counter have the wood cover that slid over it?

Yes got it thatnk. This was before you responded on the other thread. Thanks.

Everything the upgrades you did are with absolute perfection. Also like to know what is that little hatch and what is the latch right above it? I love the step you have on the port side Great idea as well. Did you redo the arch or is it original?
